Fun Things To Do With A Microwave
Have you ever been in your kitchen and thought
to yourselve, wow I'm bored, I wish I could think of something
to do? Well little did you know that the object of your relieve
would be right beside you. There are litterally dozens of fun
things you can do with a microwave. And here are just a few of
them
Disclaimer!!!! This is presented
for informational purposed only. I make no warranties, neither
express nor implied on how safe the experiments will be. I refuse
liability for any accident or damage which occurs if you decide
to try some of the things listed here.
Anyway, after covering my ass lets start small
A CD
This one is pretty simple. All you need is an
ordinary cd. A blank cd will do fine, but the best ones are the
ones that AOL mails to you on a regular basis. Then you get just
a little bit of added satisfaction.
All you need to do is place the cd in the microwave,
either data side up or on end, and turn it on for 5 - 10 seconds.
Very quickly sparks will ripple across the face and you will be
left with a very dead, albeit cool looking cd.
A Grape
Who knew that an ordinary grape could be so cool?
For this trick you need an ordinary grape, a knife, and some sort
of class dish. (although if your microwave has a glass rotating
device on the bottom that will work too)
Take the grape and cut it in two halves with
a small flap of skin between them. Do not separate the halves.
Place both halves face down on the glass with the skin between
them and light it off. After a few seconds you will get a bright
jet of flame as the flap of skin between the grapes ignites.
An Ordinary Cell Phone
Note, this is strictly heresay. I heard it from
a friend of mine who admits that he was very drunk at the time.
Nonetheless it sounds much cooler than lighting a grape on fire.
What you need : An ordinary cell phone. Preferably
one still covered by a very extensive warranty. Or someone elses.
What you do : Toss the cell phone in the microwave
( duh ). My source was unable to inform me as to how long this
process took. His best guess was about 2 beers, so use your own
judgement on this one.
What happens : Boom. Bye Bye cell phone, and
maybe Bye Bye microwave. If you're not careful bye bye hands and
eyes as well. I very much recommend not doing this, but thought
it was cool enough to be mentioned.
Ball Lightning :
It is possible to generate Ball Lightning, or
traveling balls of plama using your microwave. What you need is
a candle and some toothpicks. The idea was first suggested on
the Cold Fusion Research forum and tried without the toothpicks,
and without success. However it was eventually discovered that
that If your microwave oven can put out significantly more than
500 watts, and if you stick a bunch of charred toothpick fragments
in the top of a lit candle... then the candle will intermittently
spit out orange "flames" made of plasma. The plasma
will rise to the top of the oven and crawl around. When one ball
of plasma disappears the candle will emit another one.
There are many easier ways to do it than with
the toothpicks however. Great success has been had with lit cigarettes
and graphite from mechanical pencils. Check out this site for
how to do it hardcore.
