If you want to be a long term winning poker player, you have to play within your bankroll. If you play at stakes you can’t afford, then one bad beat can devastate your bankroll. So how much money do you need ? That depends on the stakes you are playing, and if you are playing No Limit Poker or Limit Poker.
A common rule of thumb is that you need 15 buy ins in your no limit bankroll, and 300 big bets in your limit bankroll. That means, that to have enough money to play no limit poker, you need 1500 times the big blind of the stakes you are playing, and you need 600 times the big blind for the stakes you are playing for limit poker. If you multi-table online poker tables, you may need more money to keep tilt from breaking your bankroll.
